In either case, the
competition is frequently played with exposure to college coaches and
scouts at AAU and YBOA tournaments. There is an opportunity to compete at
the AAU National Tournaments and National Invitational Championship
Tournaments. Players make new friends with other motivated and talented
athletes. They travel to new places and have new opportunities that
broaden their basketball and life experiences. Click below

Tournament
Play - The
Lady Knights teams play other AAU basketball teams in weekend tournaments
throughout the Northeast. Teams have traveled as far as Canada, Florida,
Seattle and Washington,DC. Tournaments are generally held on weekends,
including Memorial Day Weekend and 4th of July Weekend. The AAU season
usually runs from March into early July, though some teams have continued
through the summer, especially the older
teams.

Tryouts
- Tryouts are held in mid-to-late February for 2 sessions.
Girls are asked to come to both tryout sessions. A parent or guardian must
accompany each player who wishes to tryout. All girls trying out must be
registered with AAU before tryouts for a $14 fee. Membership cards are mailed to
the Club in June by the regional AAU office. Girls will be notified within
a few days after tryouts whether or not they have been selected for a
team. There will be a brief parent meeting at each tryout.

Practices - Practices are usually held twice a week throughout the season, 2
hours each session at an area gym. The practice schedule is set by the
Club and coach based on gym time availability. Girls are asked to attend
all practices, be on time getting to practice, and to be picked up
promptly at the end of practice.

The Joust - Most tournaments in which the teams participate in are organized
by clubs similar to ours in other parts of the Northeast. We plan to
conduct our own tournament, called "The joust" in June.
Volunteer help is needed at "The joust" to make it a success.
These volunteers are needed to sell admission tickets, food, beverages,
tee shirts, and sweatshirts; as well as keep the game clock and/ or 30
second clock.

Running
a Lady Knights Team - Shortly
after the teams are selected, each team will hold a Parents' Meeting to
begin the season. We ask that at least one parent of each girl attend this
meeting. Each team will select the following officers:

Team
Manager - the Team Manager is responsible for
acting as a liaison between the Coach and the parents. Also,
the Team Manager works with the Team Financial Manager in scheduling the
team into various tournaments throughout the AAU season. The Club will
provide the Team Manager with a tournament schedule. The Team Manager
should set up and distribute a "Phone Tree" to the players and
parents to be used when team communications are necessary.

Financial
Manager - The Financial Manager collects fees
from the players and arranges to get the moneys to the Club Treasurer. The
Club will provide the Financial Manager with a "Coach Expense
Voucher" for the Coach to submit with his/her expenses involved in
travel to/at tournaments. The Coach will be reimbursed for these expenses
from the Team's funds. Tournament Entry Fees are, also, obtained from the
Team's funds, via the Club Treasurer. The Financial Manager and -team
Manager should work together to keep track of moneys spent and tournaments
entered.

Joust
Rep - The Joust Rep is responsible for attending joust Planning
Meetings and communicating the information back to the parents. Each Joust
Rep should make up a Volunteer Schedule for working at the joust. The
Joust Rep will also coordinate obtaining food & supplies from the
joust Director for the location that the team will be working at.

Publicity/Yearbook
Manager -The Publicity/ Yearbook Manager is
responsible for publishing team results in area newspapers, collecting and
submitting data (team pictures, individual pictures, stats, quotes, etc.)
for the yearbook and submitting the yearbook data to the Club Yearbook
Coordinator. Mid-season, the Club Yearbook Coordinator will send the
Yearbook Manager a "layout" for the yearbook. This "team
layout" must be returned to the Club Yearbook Coordinator by July
15th.

Expenses - The fee for belonging to a Lady Knights 10 and Under team is
$400/player; for all other teams, the fee is $450/player. Of this fee, 15%
is used by the Club to cover expenses (i.e. basketballs, first aid
supplies, gym time and score books). The remaining 85% is available for
use by each team to cover the cost of tournament entry fees, referee fees,
and the Coach's travel expenses. In addition, parents pay for their
daughter's uniform (about $100), and any travel expenses for tournaments
(transportation, motel rooms, meals). All fees are due by March 8.
