General
Information: The board recognizes the effort, financial and time
commitment put into the program by players,
coaches and parents. The
Board is made up of parents and coaches. None of us want to see a player
go away to a distant tournament and not get playing time. But we also
recognize that playing on an AAU team requires skill, determination and
commitment on the part of all players involved. These play-time
guidelines are the HVK Board’s statement of HVK
policy. They are guidelines and not rules, so although our intent
is to guide the coaches it will continue to be the prerogative of the
individual coach as to how closely they emulate these guidelines.
Coach’s
Discretion: coaches will generally adjust playing time for
various reasons, such as number of players on the team, player skill
level, player knowledge of plays in use, player attitude, player
attendance, punctuality, and effort during practice, and player
conditioning.
Questions
about play-time should be handled by the player and coach. We encourage
players who want more play-time to ask their coach what they need to do
to get more time. Once the player has discussed this with the coach, if
the issue has not been put to rest, then a parent may discuss the issue
with the coach. These discussions should not be held immediately before,
after or during games or practices, but at a time which is neutral.
Parents are cautioned to abide by the Parents Code of Conduct. Coaches
will carefully consider the
requests. If there continues to be a disagreement even after these first
two steps, a parent may then choose to request that the HVK Girls
Athletic Director (AD) review the situation. The AD will then review the
case and work with parents and coaches to work out an agreement. The AD
will review the case with the HVK Board as needed.
Player
Development Objectives: The girls program has three
‘divisions’. These include a developmental division consisting of
8-11 year olds who are being trained in basketball fundamentals; an
instructional division of 10U,11U,12U teams of players who are being
trained in basketball fundamentals and practicing in competition; and a
competitive/showcase division of 13U,14U,15U,16U and 17U players with
more advanced skill who are primarily involved in competitions. In the
latter two divisions we have A
and B teams aka Gold and Silver.
Our
objective in the developmental division is to develop the player’s
skills to the point where they are able to successfully compete for a
spot on a future team. In the instructional division our objective is to
teach, and practice basketball fundamental skills, as well as team
skills and use these in competitions known as Friendship Tournaments. In
the competitive/showcase division our objective is to hone the
player’s skills in competition and showcase these skills at the 14-17
levels. In all B teams our objective is to give players roughly equal
amounts of time taking into account the coach's discretion item outlined
above, to improve their skills to the point where they may be able to
advance to an A team in the future. Via this Play-Time Guideline, the
Board wishes to implement its player development objectives.
Play-Time
Guideline:
Developmental
Division: Equal playtime in any scrimmages or tournament exhibition
games.
Instructional
Division: Roughly equal play-time in both A and B levels in
Friendship Tournaments subject to coach’s discretion, as described
above.
Competition/Showcase
Division:
The 13U age group is transitional in that the players are becoming
prepared for advanced competition . Therefore players with higher
contributions at the A level will begin to be given more time. B level
will play roughly equal. Both subject to coach’s discretion, as
described above. At the 14 to 17 level A players competing in all
tournaments (e.g. Friendship, Invitational, Metros, etc.) will receive
playing time in accordance with the level of their contribution. B level
play-time will be roughly equal. Both subject to coach’s discretion,
as described above.
