FAQ's

  •  Tryout information does not include my child's grade level ?
The goal of the Hudson Valley Knights is to have an active team for grade levels 4 through 11.  We will not try to create a team, without first having a dedicated coach, throughout the season.   It is not fair to the players and families.   If you do not see your child's age group, it is because we do not have a coach at present time.  We are always looking for committed coaches to fill these grade gaps.  Grade levels can start at 4th grade (potentially 3rd) through 11th grade (boys and girls).
  • If I do not see my child's grade level, can he/she tryout for the next higher level team?
Absolutely!  Talent is something we want to recognize in this organization.   We hope to see as many players as possible.  Be confident in your b-ball abilities.
  • How can I become a Hudson Valley Knights coach?

We pride ourselves on being the "old school" way of youth sports.  Volunteer coaches who know the game, and are not worried to give their time to their child and his/her teammates for a sports season!  Our coaches find it a privilege to coach at a competitive level, with all the amenities of the Hudson Valley Knights and Golds Gym in Lagrange.  The team would be fully insured, with a team shop for uniforms/gear, two practices a week (SPRING: March thru June and FALL: September - October).  We also off Gold's elite training with professional trainers, TeamSnap for roster communication and organization, the support of the HV Knights board and President Mike O'Halloran, and over 30 years of AAU Knights history.  If you feel you have a small core of players, and/or you are excited to coach competitive basketball, and like the sound of what we offer, please reach out to Mike O'Halloran at [email protected].  We are looking to grow and fill each grade level, but we will not rush and put together more teams, without committed, excited coaches to take the reigns.

  • What is an AAU basketball season like?  What are the costs?
Hudson Valley Knights basketball starts their season with a tryout at the end of February.  Practice starts in early March and concludes at the end of June.  The season then picks back up for Fall (no tryouts, same team continues from Spring), from beginning of September until the end of October.  The season consists of two 1.5 hour practices a week, possibility (coaches choice) of elite training (in addition to practices), and weekend tournaments.  The tournaments vary in location.  The coach usually find the best competition fit for that specific team, as well as choosing well run, organized, tournaments (known from experience), without extensive travel.  Traveling can range from local games up to a 3 hour drive (again depending on grade level and coach's choice.)  With all of these variables, an exact cost is hard to determine.  You are not paying a coaches' stipend.  You are getting a varsity level coach, or a volunteer with basketball history/experience, who has been approved by the AAU HV Knights board.  You will pay for your child's expenses only - club amenities, uniform, practice time, and tournament costs. We pride ourselves on being the lowest cost we can for AAU, while losing NOTHING in terms of the aau experience.  Cost for the spring season can range from $300 to $900 dollars for the season, depending on amount of tournaments, roster size, etc.  Just remember two things..1) HVK is the lowest cost AAU program around (without losing any club amenities) and 2) for a cost of $900 - we are talking about 4 months of basketball practices and tournaments!
  • What about my younger child between the grades of 1-3?

The HV Knights will be offering a skills and drills clinic (run by Mike O'Halloran), each and every season of the year.  This is the future of the Knights!!  Be on the lookout for more information.
